Before their MGM contract, LeoVegas and Royal Panda will leave the Japanese and Indian markets.
On September 1st, both the LeoVegas and Royal Panda brands will be removed from the market.
The departure, according to a LeoVegas representative, was a step in a larger plan to concentrate on regulated markets.
Locally regulated (or soon-to-be-regulated) markets will be the focus of the group's expansion efforts. According to the representative, "we continuously conduct strategic overviews of our group brands and the markets they are present in." This is to ensure that the brands have a clear purpose in the long run.
As land-based behemoth MGM Resorts prepares to acquire the company, the departures are timed to coincide. The $607 million (£513 million/€608 million) acquisition was approved by all relevant authorities earlier this week.
Among MGM's stated goals when it made its acquisition was the expansion of its online gambling offerings into European and Asian markets.
The spokesperson clarified that the potential acquisition had nothing to do with the departures, as LeoVegas had been working on a plan to target regulated markets prior to the emergence of any bid.
The target closing date for the deal is September 7th.
