In light of current staffing shortages, the state of New South Wales will be offering refresher training in hospitality.
The state's gaming industry is already bracing for a tight labour market after numerous employees departed during the COVID-19 outbreak, so this might have a significant impact on their operations.
According to Kevin Anderson, the minister for hospitality and racing in New South Wales, "many who left the sector have seen their mandatory certifications lapse." "Our goal is to ensure that individuals can renew their certifications with ease and swiftness, while also removing any obstacles that may hinder their return to the hospitality industry."
Anderson elaborated on how the refresher courses will keep the casino and alcohol sectors' employees well-trained.
"A Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) certificate is required not only for bar and wait staff, but also for security, crowd control, promotional staff and anyone else who works or volunteers in an establishment that sells alcohol," he explained. "The same holds true for the Responsible Conduct of Gambling (RCG) certificate - having specific training to identify and minimise gambling harm is a must if you work around poker machines."
The action was thanked by John Green, the director of spirits and policing for the Australian Hotels Association NSW, to the minister.
"We would particularly encourage older workers with their years of experience to step back behind the bar — we would like to see more people from the industry pick up shifts at their local as a result of reduced red tape," Green stated.
According to the Authority, more than 16,000 individuals have taken advantage of the free RSA and RCG refresher courses offered since February.
A fifteen percent rise to the state's point-of-consumption tax was announced last week by New South Wales.
